Token of Appreciation Handcrafted by the Kidz Meadow

Love Letter to Kidz Meadow

A Love Letter to the K2 Kids of Kidz Meadow Childcare and Development Centre (Northwest Cluster)

From a storytelling session at the AMP Auditorium in Pasir Ris

On Friday, 30 January 2026, I had the pleasure of conducting a storytelling session for 95 K2 children from Kidz Meadow Childcare and Development Centre at the AMP Auditorium. Children from the Woodlands, Yew Tee, Jurong West, and Yishun centres came together for an afternoon of stories and laughter.

This letter is my way of thanking them — in the most heartfelt way I know how.

Dearest K2 kids from Kidz Meadow Childcare and Development Centre

(Woodlands, Yew Tee, Jurong West, and Yishun centres),

I loved meeting all of you the moment you trooped into the AMP Auditorium on Friday, 30 January 2026. So instead of writing a normal blog post, I decided to write you a letter.

Before the session began, I was sitting in the back row, feeling a little nervous. Then a little boy called out, “Hi Sherri. I’m so excited!”

And just like that, that little boy zapped away my nervousness and I felt excited too. I couldn’t wait to start telling you my stories after that!

All of you completely melted my heart with how warm and friendly you were. I loved how you waved at me from your seats. Sometimes I didn’t wave back — and I’m sorry about that. It wasn’t because I didn’t want to. It was because I couldn’t see you waving at me until my husband (Uncle Rush) told me.

And every time one of you called out “Hi, Sherri” or the even cuter “Hello, Sheyyi,” you filled me with so much joy.

You also made me so happy with how much you laughed during The Fart Brigade. Those of you who came up on stage for the Loudest Fart Contest were so brave — and your fart sounds were seriously impressive! Everyone roared with laughter, including me.

And thank you, boys, for being so honest when you said you didn’t like mermaid stories. Uh oh — just as I was about to tell Mermaid On A Mountaintop.

But a character from the story, Merprince, saved the day. He didn’t just get the girls hooked — he got the boys listening too, even though they weren’t fans of mermaids.

One of the most special gifts I have ever received was the piece of art you made for me with buttons. You knew I couldn’t see, so you made me something I could feel. Aww! That was so thoughtful. I will treasure it always.

Uncle Rush and I enjoyed ourselves so much that we missed you as soon as you left the auditorium. We still keep talking about you — and smiling — even now.

We wish all of you the happiest kindergarten days and the brightest years ahead. May excitement, laughter, and love always be your friends. I will remember you for as long as I live — and when I write new stories, I will imagine I am writing them just for you.

Lots of love,

Ma Sherri

(That’s what my nephews and nieces call me — and now you can too, because you are all my nephews and nieces in my heart.)

P.S.

Thank you also to Madam Liyana, Manager (Northwest Cluster), and to all the teachers and parent-volunteers who took such wonderful care of these amazing children.

P.P.S.

If any of you kids see me again one day — in a library, a mall, or anywhere else — I may not be able to recognise your faces. But please don’t be shy. You can always call out, “Hi, Ma Sherri! I’m from Kidz Meadow!”

I would love that very much.

And to the wonderful parents, teachers, and school leaders who made this day possible — if you’d like me to visit your school for a storytelling session, I’d be honoured to hear from you here.

And if you’re in Singapore, here’s some happy news: my books are now available directly from my website. Shop for them here.
